Fit or Fat?

I am practicing the art of awareness.  Now when I crave a certain food, snack, or drink, I ask myself:  “Was I fit or fat when I used to eat (or drink) a lot of this?”  That has been just enough incentive for me to drive right past the drive-thrus without looking back…

Today, I did pick up free iced coffee and I drank half of it and realized that I really don’t need it anymore so I threw away the rest.

The next time you feel yourself reaching for that sugar cookie, slice of pizza, black and bleu burger, or venti Frappucino with extra white chocolate and whipped cream; Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Am I hungry?  I know that I often eat out of boredom or for comfort even when I am not hungry.  This habit has not helped me get closer to reaching my goals.
  2. Will this fuel me through my day in a good way?  Sometimes we need that extra boost of energy, but there are many different ways to become energized.  Get creative and try drinking lemon water or doing 27 jumping jacks before you reach for that cup of Joe.
  3. Was I fit or fat when I used to eat (or drink) a lot of this? You don’t have to use the word “fat.”  I know that may be somewhat offensive to some people.  It just happens to be my “tough love” word that gets through to me.  Feel free to substitute the word for something else more fitting.  Like mad libs :).

I almost picked up a Jazen Iced Milk tea on my way home.  Somehow my brain wanted to rationalize the fact that it would be a better choice than coffee.

Doesn’t it look delicious?!?!  Then just as I was about to pull in and find parking I remembered that when I was at my heaviest I used to frequently get pho and this exact tea.  I kept driving and didn’t look back!

So far being more aware is working for me.  Maybe it will work for you!  Give it a try!!!
