You don’t have to travel the world to be a tourist.
I guess the word tourist has both positive and negative associations.
- A person who is traveling or visiting a place for pleasure.
synonyms: vacationer, traveler, sightseer, visitor, backpacker, globetrotter, day-tripper, out-of-towner
The dictionary definition makes it sound wonderful and romantic.
I think the negative side of being a tourist is being lost or unaware of the pitfalls and danger of an area.
I have always loved the thought of traveling the world. Exploring new places. Meeting people. Experiencing exotic sights, sounds, smells, and flavors.
Someday, I will travel the world, but until then my consolation is:
“I can travel anywhere in my mind.”
I can travel the world through books, movies, documentaries, and the stories of others. Use my imagination to reach beyond my current horizon.
It IS possible to be a tourist even in your own home town. Try something new. Visit a place you have never been.
Explore. You don’t need money to be a tourist. You can go for walks and discover the hidden gems.
All you need is some quality time and time is all we have.
